We offer a range of formal training for the general public
If you have a VHF or HF radio on board, you are required by law to have a license to operate it. This even applies if you have a VHF hand-held radio.
We run regular courses leading to the SROCP, (Short Range Operators’ Certificate of Proficiency) and the LROCP, (Long Range Operators’ Certificate of Proficiency) qualifications. The SROCP is the miniumum requirement to legally operate a VHF Marine Radio
Please note the SROCP and LROCP run together for the first two nights, LROCP attendees complete one further night
This course is intended for people who are planning longer voyages, including ocean crossings.
In addition to incorporating all of the SROCP course material, this course also includes information about MF and HF frequencies, signal propagation and voyage planning.
The Long Range Operators Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP ) course runs over 3 evenings from 7.00 to 9.30 pm.

Making calls, receiving calls, relaying calls, various call signs & distress messages.
The VHF Radio Operators Course runs over 2 evenings from 7.00 to 9.30 pm. Available course dates will appear in the drop down list below. Course dates will be added from time to time.
Please bring the following items with you at the start of the course.
Pen, Pencil, Eraser, Motor Driver Licence and a colour passport size photograph
Class sizes are strictly limited to maximise learning so book early to avoid disappointment.
